2024 Defender Bosch MD1CP007 ECU successfully unlocked and ready for calibration.
Until recently, most post-2020 Bosch MD1 and MG1 ECUs could only be tuned after a mail-in unlock service. That meant removing the ECU from the vehicle, shipping it away, and waiting over a week for it to return before tuning could even begin.
Magic Motorsport has now released its glitch unlock protocol on FLEX for selected Bosch MD1 and MG1 ECUs, allowing supported units to be unlocked directly on the bench and eliminating the delays associated with mail-in services.
That doesn't mean the process is simple.
A successful unlock demands a controlled work environment, clean and stable power, quality bench equipment, extremely short glitch wiring with low-resistance connections, and a disciplined workflow.
One of the critical steps even involves temporarily removing and reinstalling the tiny surface-mount resistor shown in the second photo—approximately one quarter the size of a grain of rice.
Modern ECU unlocks demand patience, precision and the right equipment. There are no shortcuts.
