Usable Torque
Stronger low- and mid-range response for hills, overtaking, towing and everyday driving.
Improve the usable torque, throttle response and transmission behaviour of your 3.0-litre Isuzu D-MAX, MU-X or Mazda BT-50.
South West Tuning Co. provides matched engine and supported automatic transmission tuning for daily driving, touring, towing and work vehicles.
Completed by appointment in Donnybrook, Western Australia.

Applies to current-generation vehicles fitted with the 3.0-litre 4JJ3-TCX engine. ECU and transmission compatibility is confirmed from the individual vehicle before booking.
The goal is a stronger, more predictable vehicle—not an aggressive throttle pedal or an unrealistic headline figure.
Stronger low- and mid-range response for hills, overtaking, towing and everyday driving.
More direct response without making the vehicle abrupt or difficult to control.
On supported automatics, reduce unnecessary hunting and make better use of the available torque.
Improve torque-converter lock-up and release behaviour for a more connected driving feel.
The engine tune improves how the 4JJ3 delivers torque through the rev range used for normal driving, towing and overtaking.
Boost, fuelling, throttle response and torque control are calibrated together rather than chasing one peak number.
The transmission tune controls how that extra torque is used. Shift points, gear selection and converter behaviour can be refined on supported vehicles.
The aim is not to stop every downshift. It is to choose the right gear and avoid unnecessary hunting or converter slip.
Transmission tuning depends on the controller and software fitted and does not apply to manual vehicles.
A towing-focused 4JJ3 tune prioritises controlled torque, sensible gear selection and predictable response under load.
Matched engine and transmission tuning can improve how the vehicle responds on hills, when joining traffic and while carrying touring weight.
Tuning does not increase the vehicle’s legal towing capacity, payload, GVM, GCM or axle ratings.

Pricing applies to normal supported vehicles without unresolved mechanical, electrical, emissions-system or programming faults. Diagnosis, repairs and unusual applications may be quoted separately.
Provide the year, model, transmission, modifications, intended use and typical towing weight.
The vehicle is scanned and relevant engine and transmission operation is checked before programming.
The supported ECU and TCU are programmed under stable power support with calibration matched to the application.
The vehicle is road tested and logged where required before handover.
Allow approximately four to six hours for a normal engine and transmission appointment.
“Tim carried out a trans tune on my 2023 Dmax after being recommended to me by a friend. I had previously got an engine tune elsewhere and his trans tune really complimented it. It drives like a whole new vehicle now after his trans tune combined with the engine tune done previously. Very smooth and trans isn't all over the place anymore. Not to mention top notch customer service and honesty. Thanks again.”
“I really highly recommend this. My car was really sluggish and couldn’t pick gears, just jump around when towing my caravan, but after the engine and transmission remap it ran 100% better. Thanks.”
“Contacted Tim to remap my 2025 Isuzu Dmax. Right from the get go, Tim was great to deal with and explained each step along the way.
Remap of both the engine and transmission done and dusted, the difference is amazing, drives like a completely different beast.
Highly recommend Tim and Southwest Tuning Co.”

The 4JJ3-TCX is Isuzu’s current-generation 3.0-litre common-rail turbo-diesel. In Australian applications it is factory rated at 140kW and 450Nm.
Different ECU hardware and software versions can be fitted across D-MAX, MU-X and BT-50 models. Supported versions can generally be programmed through the diagnostic connector, but the exact controller and software must be identified first.
Stable programming voltage, correct software identification and retention of the appropriate standard software remain essential.
This service covers current-generation Isuzu D-MAX, Isuzu MU-X and Mazda BT-50 vehicles fitted with the 3.0-litre 4JJ3-TCX engine. Provide the VIN, model, year and transmission so the exact configuration can be confirmed.
For a supported automatic vehicle, the best overall result is normally achieved when the engine and transmission tunes are matched. The engine tune improves torque delivery, while the transmission tune controls how that torque is used.
Yes. A towing-focused tune can improve usable torque, gear selection and converter behaviour, provided the vehicle is mechanically sound and the calibration suits the application.
No. The transmission should still select a lower gear when load and engine speed require it. The aim is to reduce unnecessary hunting, not force the engine to labour in a high gear.
Fuel consumption may improve in some conditions, but it cannot be guaranteed. Vehicle weight, tyre size, towing load, speed, terrain and use of the additional performance all affect consumption.
In most supported cases, the appropriate standard software is retained or obtained so the ECU or TCU can be returned to standard. Returning the software to standard does not guarantee that previous programming activity is undetectable.
Send the year, exact model, transmission, modifications, typical towing weight and how you use the vehicle. We will confirm the suitable engine and transmission options before booking.
